India will send a 228-member team including 119 players to the Tokyo Olympics this time. Giving information, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra said that out of these players, 67 are male and 52 are female participants. Batra said, “The total number of Indian contingent for the Tokyo Olympics will be 228. There are 67 male players and 52 female players. We will challenge in 85 medal events.
For the first time in the Olympics, India will have the largest team of players who are going to play. 118 players took part in the Rio Olympics. He said, ‘On July 17, the first team from India to Tokyo will leave. There will be a total of 90 players and officials.
The Tokyo Olympics will begin from 23 July to 8 August. The entry of spectators is not allowed in the stadium during the games due to the pandemic. The Olympic Games will be held completely under emergency measures. This emergency will last till August 22.
Four players and coaches of the Indian sailing contingent reached Tokyo on Tuesday. Sailing players practicing in different countries of Europe reached the capital of Japan from their practice site.
These players have arrived here from Europe, so they will not have to face the stringent restrictions imposed on other players coming from India regarding Kovid-19. Boxing and shooting teams will also reach Tokyo from Italy and Croatia respectively. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will reach Tokyo from the US on July 15 or 16.
