Team India created history by defeating England by 151 runs at Lord’s. This team, captained by Virat Kohli, defeated England in the second match of the Test series. With this win, Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
After the dismissal of Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma in the first hour of the fifth day of the match, it seemed that Team India would lose this match. But Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah performed amazingly with the ball and bat and made this match in the name of Team India.
In this victory of Team India, not one or two, the entire 8 players have contributed. These players are KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Siraj, Mr. Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
KL Rahul – On the first day of the match, when England’s fast bowlers were swinging the ball in the air, KL Rahul stuck like a rock on the wicket. This batsman scored the sixth century of his Test career and played an excellent innings of 129 runs. Rahul shared a 126-run partnership with his opening partner Rohit Sharma and then added 117 runs with captain Virat Kohli. KL Rahul was adjudged man of the match for his excellent innings.
Rohit Sharma was also the hero of Lord’s victory. On the first day of the game, Rohit also batted in his own style. He definitely missed the century but he scored 83 runs in 145 balls and on the basis of his strong innings, India reached 364 runs.
Pujara-Rahane showed strength- When batsmen like Rahul, Rohit and Virat Kohli returned to the pavilion early in the second innings, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane gave support to the team. Both these batsmen batted fiercely on the fourth day and added 100 runs in 297 balls to keep the Indian team in the match.
Bumrah-Shami’s record partnership – Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami took India to 298 runs in the second innings with an unbeaten partnership of 89 runs in just 120 balls. Due to his batting, India’s hopes of victory at Lord’s were tied. Bumrah scored an unbeaten 34, while Shami scored an unbeaten 56.
The two shared a record partnership for the 9th wicket for India at Lord’s. Both broke the record of 66 runs partnership of Kapil Dev and Madan Lal. Kapil Dev and Madan Lal had this partnership against England in 1982. Bumrah and Shami also did wonders with the ball. Bumrah took 3 wickets in the second innings and Shami got a breakthrough.
Brilliant bowling from Mohammad Siraj and Ishant – Mohammad Siraj took 8 wickets in both the innings. Siraj took the wickets of Dom Sibley, Haseeb Hameed, Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Robinson in the first innings. In the second innings, Siraj picked up the wickets of Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and James Anderson. At the same time, Ishant took 3 wickets in the first innings and 2 wickets in the second innings.
