Health Ministry said that 50 percent people do not wear masks and out of those who do wear, 64% cover only their mouth and not nose.
At a press briefing, Lav Agarwal, Health Ministry Joint Secretary said, “As per a study, in India, 50 percent of the people still do not wear masks. Among those who wear mask, 64 percent of them do not cover their nose properly.”
He also said that between 50,000 to 1 lakh active Covid-19 cases are from 9 states and the other 19 states have less than 50,000 cases.
Agarwal shared that if a person does not follow physical distancing then that person can infect 406 persons in a month. He also added by requesting people to practice physical distancing, calling it the most important social vaccine in terms of Covid-19 management, in terms of critical intervention.
“Similary, the use of masks is also important. If an infected person and a non-infected person do not wear a mask, then there are 90 percent chances of transmission of infection. But, if those two persons follow social distancing and wear masks, then the infection risk is almost negligible,” he said.
This study showed that out of 2,000 people in 25 cities, 50% do not wear masks properly. Out of those, 64% cover mouth but not the nose, 20% keep it on the chins, 2% have masks on their necks and only 14 percent wear it the right way.
Meanwhile, in last 24 hours, India reported 2,59,591 new cases and 4,209 deaths. On the other hand, 3,57,295 people recovered in last 24 hours which is more than the new cases.
