An accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, Priest Stan Swamy passed away at Holy family hospital on Monday.
Following the order of Bombay high court, he was transferred from Taloja prison to the Holy family hospital in May.
A bench of justice S S Shinde and NJ Jamadar said, “We record with heavy heart that Dr Ian Dsouza, medical director of Holy Family Hospital informed us that Stan Swamy passed away at 1:24 pm today”.
Dr. Dsouza told the court that Stan Swamy suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning.
Senior counsel for Swamy, Mihir Desai submitted that he was provided the best treatment at the hospital.
Desai also said that there is no objection to the post-mortem but whatever needs to be done should be done following the NHRC guidelines and the reports must be submitted to the High Court.
While keeping with all the SOPs during this pandemic, Stan Swamy’s funeral will be held in Mumbai.
