Sri Lanka defeated Team India by 3 wickets in the third and final match of the ODI series. However, by winning the first two matches, Team India had already won the series. They captured the series 2-1.

Team India led by Shikhar Dhawan won the toss in the third match and decided to bat first. In this rain-affected match, Team India got out for 225 runs in 43.1 overs. With DLS, Sri Lanka got the target of 227 runs in 47 overs, which they achieved by losing 7 wickets in 39 overs. Opener Avishka Fernando scored the highest 76 runs for Sri Lanka.

Chasing the target of 227 runs, the Sri Lankan team got the first blow in the form of Minod Bhanuka (7) and he became the victim of Krishnappa Gautam on the team score of 35. After this, Avishka Fernando and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (65) carried the innings in a restrained manner and added 109 runs for the second wicket. Rajapaksa scored 65 runs in his brilliant innings of 56 balls, which included 12 fours. Rajapaksa was victimized by Chetan Sakariya playing the debut ODI. After this, Dhananjay de Silva (2), Charit Asalanka (24) and captain Dasun Shanaka (0) quickly returned to the pavilion but Fernando remained frozen and kept increasing the run-rate. He also added 43 runs for the fourth wicket with Charit.

Opener Fernando was caught by Rahul Chahar at the hands of Prithvi Shaw and he returned to the pavilion in the 37th over of the innings as the team’s sixth wicket. Then the score of the team, however, had reached 214 runs. He faced 98 balls and hit 4 fours and a six. For India, young pacer Chetan Sakariya and spinner Rahul Chahar took 2-2 wickets while Krishnappa Gautam and Hardik Pandya took 1-1 wickets.
