Punjab lockdown: The restrictions or mini lockdown that were put by Punjab till May 15 have been extended till 31st May. This decision was taken on Sunday as there has been a continuous rise in the Covid positivity rate. CM has said that DCs will to keep a check spread on Covid. He also said that they can make amendments as per the local condition, of course keeping in mind the overall state restrictions.
In a high-level meeting, CM said, reviewing the Covid situation of the state, that the restriction shave shown results. The positivity and cases reduced from 9,000 to 6,000 during this period. However, he also mentioned that there was a need to extend this period as positivity was still high from May 9-15.
Another concern was expressed by the CM which was over the spread of new fungal infection which apparently has been associated with Covid.
So far the state has been able to successful in preventing any mishap when it comes to availability of oxygen. But Chief Minister said that health department should closely monitor the situation. By the end of this month, the state is expecting over 2,500 concentrators on the ground, he said.
Chief minister said that the situation continues to be grim and there is no scope for laxity. Though the state has been successfully able to combat the virus so far. But the battle continues amind apprehension of more possible waves ahead.
On Saturday, Punjab reported 6,867 new cases and 217 deaths. The death toll of the state is at 11,693.
