More than 2,000 Uttrakhand police officers have recently been tested positive for Covid-19 and over 90% of those policemen had also been vaccinated. In fact, they had taken both the shots before getting infected with Coronavirus.
According to the data, between the month of April and May, 2,382 police officers have tested Covid positive and among those men, 2,204 have recovered already. 5 policemen lost their lives to Covid; 2 of them had comorbidities and 3 had not been vaccinated.
The officers who died were the ones who were deployed at the Kumbh Mela for duty. However, DIG of Uttarakhand Nilesh Anand Bharne confirmed that it had nothing to do with their death.
Talking about such large number of policemen being infected, Mr Bharne said that the severity of the cases along with casualties is low and also mentioned that even vaccine manufacturers say that being vaccinated doesn’t provide 100% immunity from coronavirus; there are chances of contracting the virus even after taking both the doses.
In the first wave of Covid pandemic, 1,982 officers had tested positive out of which 8 lost their lived. In the second wave now, that number has risen to 4,364. Many family members of these personnel caught virus too, the number of those people stands at 751.
