Mirabai Chanu, an Indian weightlifter representing India in olympics, has created history in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She has won a silver medal in the 49 kg category.
This is the second time India has won a medal in weightlifting in olympics. The last time India won a medal was in the 2020 Sydney Olympics. Karnam Malleswari had won a bronze medal. Now, after 20 years, Chanu has won India the silver medal by lifting a total of 202 kg, 115 kg in clean and jerk and 87 in snatch.

Also, it is the first time that India has won a medal on the first day of the olympics. This also makes Mirabhai the first Indian to win a silver medal in weightlifting. Mirabai Chanu successfully lifted 115kg. But she failed during the third attempt and had to be satisfied with the silver medal.
The whole nation is proud right now and not to mention, so is PM modi. He tweeted to congratulate Mirabai Chanu on winning the silver medal in weightlifting.
Could not have asked for a happier start to @Tokyo2020! India is elated by @mirabai_chanu’s stupendous performance. Congratulations to her for winning the Silver medal in weightlifting. Her success motivates every Indian. #Cheer4India #Tokyo2020 pic.twitter.com/B6uJtDlaJo

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Mirabai was not able to perform well. However, this time she made up for her disappointing performance in Rio. Back then she failed to qualify in any of three clean and jerk attempts. But this time, things were different. She also was the only weightlifter to have qualified for Tokyo.

This time she has shut all those mouths that criticized her for her performance in Rio five years ago. When she landed at Weightlifting Arena on July 24, the performance did make an impact on her confidence. She really has left everybody speechless and the whole nation proud.
