Some of you may be already aware of Minimalism and for those who aren’t familiar with the term, Minimalism is a way of living which focuses of having as less material possessions as possible.

This concept emerged somewhere between 50s and 60s and in this century, it has been given its fair share of popularity by Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, two long-time friends. People all over the world are trying to be minimalist because they find simplicity more peaceful and less draining than showing off luxury living.

Why be a Minimalist?

First let’s understand why people are materialistic. Now, being a materialistic person means that you find happiness in possessing more and more, either things or money. However, after buy certain thing or acquiring something, one only feels happy for a small period of time and soon starts to pursue another such thing which, according to him, will make him happy.

So, if you think carefully, it’s an everlasting circle. You think something will make you happy and maybe it does too, but it fails to keep you happy. And if you lose something, you feel like your world has ended.

On the other hand, if you love having less and less, there are less things you can lose and it won’t cause you much misery because you aren’t attached to the things. Simply put, you can only lose something you have, you can’t lose something you don’t have. So, possess less and live more.

It’s not something you can do in a day. You can’t just throw or sell everything out today only to be a minimalist. Start with certain things at your home that you do have but don’t really use much. You may try to convince yourself that you need that thing, but you don’t. You know what I am talking about. Gradually, work your way up. Apply minimalism to furniture, gadgets, clothes and maybe eventually to your social circle too.

Do try this lifestyle and see the changes in yourself, you will start feeling free and independent. After all, less is more.
