Milkha Singh, one of the biggest sportspersons of independent India, will be cremated with full state honors in Chandigarh on Saturday evening. He died late on Friday night after battling for a month with corona infection.
The Punjab government has declared one day of state mourning on the death of Milkha Singh. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh tweeted, “I have directed that the last rites of late Milkha Singh ji will be performed with full state honours.”
Along with this, there will be one day state mourning in Punjab as a mark of respect to this great player.
Earlier, he had tweeted, ‘Saddened and shocked by the demise of Milkha Ji. This marked the end of an era for India and Punjab. My condolences to his family and fans. He will be an inspiration for generations to come.
A spokesperson for Milkha’s family had said, “The last rites will be held at 5 pm on Saturday.” Milkha is survived by son golfer Jeev Milkha Singh and three daughters. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that India has lost a great player.
He said, ‘Milkha ji is no more with us, but he will continue to inspire every Indian to bring glory to the country. Flying Sikh will always be in the hearts of Indians.
