WTC final: Echoing head coach Ravi Shastri, Indian captain Virat Kohli said the best Test team in the world should not be judged on the basis of one final, but by the ‘best of three finals’.
India won the series by coming back after falling behind against Australia and England, but New Zealand defeated them by 8 wickets in the WTC final.
Kohli said in the post-match press conference, ‘I am not in favor of determining the best Test team in the world by one final match.’ He said, ‘If there is a Test series, then only three Tests tell which team Has the potential to return. It doesn’t happen that you play well for two days and then suddenly you are not a good Test team. I do not believe it.’
Shastri had talked about the best of three finals even before the team left for England. Kohli said, ‘This should be considered in the future. In three matches, there are efforts, ups and downs, and situations change. You get a chance to correct mistakes. After this it is known which is the best team.
He also said that the defeat to New Zealand does not accurately depict the achievements of his team in two years. “We are not bothered by this result. We have done well in the last three-four years. This match does not depict our ability and ability properly.
The three-match final will be difficult for the ICC . Kohli said that people should remember that this was a tough series and not just a final.
He said, ‘This should be discussed. Not because we couldn’t win, but for Test cricket, this saga should be memorable.
