Eight-month pregnant Dr P Shanmugapriya die due to covid19

All frontline workers in the district are shocked after an eight-month pregnant medical officer died of covid19. The name of the medical officer is Dr P Shanmugapriya who used to work in Anuppanadi Primary Health Center. But for a few days she was struggling with fever and sore throat.
After fever, Shanmugapriya got his RT-PCR test done for covid19 but the report came negative. On 30 April, shanmugapriya applied for maternity leave, which was approved by city health officer P Kumaragurubaran.


Later she got himself admitted in a private hospital. Her covid report was found positive here. A few days later, she was shifted to Government Rajaji Hospital’s obstetrics and gynaecology ward for further treatment. On Saturday morning she suffered an intrauterine death. Around 5.30 in the evening, she died.
This news was quite a shock to those working with her. A doctor said in an interview to the new Indian Express “As doctors, we cannot afford to stay at home to keep ourselves safe. But we cannot afford to lose any more of our frontline workers due to the carelessness of others.”
Let us tell you that Shanmugapriya earlier worked as the medical officer of Chinnamanur Government Hospital in Theni district. A member of her family has also been found to be Corona positive.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has said with grief that “The demise of Dr P Shanmugapriya, a young doctor who was a frontline warrior against the pandemic, brings great pain. I have further instructed to ensure the safety of the doctors and other frontline workers involved in prevention and treatment of Covid-19 patients. My heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr Shanmugapriya and the other government doctors in Tamil Nadu. “
