In a recently went viral video, a man can be seen arguing with the staff member of a supermarket who was just doing his job by asking him to wear a mask at the counter. This customer was later identified as Dr B Srinicas Kakkilaya.
This incident happened in Karnataka on Wednesday and a case was filed against the doctor. In his defense, Dr Kakkilaya can be seen saying, “I am not putting anyone at risk because I have already had Covid and I have recovered from it”. To this the staff member replies saying, “reasonable, but the rules should be the rules”.
The co-owner of the supermarket Ryan Rosario complained a file against this man and in his complain, he mentioned that the doctor said that had treated patients without wearing any mask and questioned why he was being compelled to wear one in a supermarket.
“He (the accused) has put my customers and staff at risk… I urge the government to look into this matter and take necessary action against the concerned person,” Rosario stated in his complaint.
The Police Commissioner of Mangaluru N Shashikumar said, “Based on the complaint, we have filed a case under relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act 2020 at Kadri police station”.
“The incident had taken place on May 18 (Tuesday) but the video went viral and was seen as shared across social media platforms today. Despite repeated requests, he (the accused) is seen refusing to wear a mask and has even questioned the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government”, a cop said.
The doctor is to appear before the investigating officer, according to the police.
