The Central government is planning to speed up the vaccination process to fight against Coronavirus. Because the vaccines supply from Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech is likely to improve from mid-July or August, the government is targeting 1 crore inoculations a day.
It is a matter of around two months. Once supplies improve, the number of vaccinations per day will go up remarkably. We have to do it and planning is going on,” said a senior officer.
Going by the current estimation, around 20 crore doses will be supplied in the next month and that number may increase if vaccines are imported from Pfizer and Moderna.
N K Arora, chairperson of National Task force on Covid vaccination said, “By August, we will have 20-25 crore vaccine doses per month. We are aiming to vaccinate 1 crore people every day.”
The vaccines number will need to be increased as recently the walk-in vaccination for the 18-44 age group has been allowed. The number which was 7.9 crore of doses in May can rise to 12 crore in June.
Center has also asked the states to lay out a plan for scheduling and slots of the vaccine and publish them as the supplies will advance soon.
