Bihar and their neighboring state Uttar Pradesh have started blaming each other for dumping bodies in the holy river Ganga. This happened a day after a half-burnt corpse washed ashore floating down the Ganga river.
Bihar claims to have retrieved and cremated 71 bodies. If the death of any of these people was caused by Covid or not is still unconfirmed even after the autopsy.
Union jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat tagged Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath in a tweet that said, “The Modi government is committed to the cleanliness of ‘mother’ Ganga. This incident is unexpected. The states concerned should take immediate cognizance.”
We have taken serious note of the issue of dumping dead bodies in River Ganga and instituted measures for the prohibition of the same.

Water resources minister Sanjay Kumar Jha said, “The last rites of 71 bodies were performed as per Covid protocol. A net has been placed in the river at Ranighat, bordering UP and Bihar. We’ve advised the UP administration to be vigilant; out district admin is keeping vigil too.”
DM Aman Samir (in Buxar) said that the bodies had been dumped in Ghazipur of UP. Ghaziapur DM mangla Prasad Singh said, “As the bodies were found there (in Buxar), they would know better about their origin.”
A further research revealed more bodies in Ballia. But no official announcement was made about the number of bodies found until Tuesday evening.
