Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal wrote to PM Narendra Modi this afternoon and suggested 4 ways on boosting the production of vaccine. He underlines that capital has had to pause the vaccination for the 18-45 age group because of shortage of doses.
Kejriwal, in an appeal to the center, said, “To protect the country from a third Covid wave, it’s important to speed up the vaccination drive.”
“All the doses that we received from the government (for 18-44 age group) have been used. A few doses were left, which will also be used by the evening. This is sad. We have written to the centre about this…as soon as we receive supply, we will reopen the centres,” said the Chief Minister during a video address.
Delhi needs 80 lakh doses every month but received only 16 lakhs on May. In his letter, he told PM that for the month of June, their share of doses has been reduced to 8 lakhs.
He says that with this much number of doses, it will take 30 months to vaccinate the whole city and it is hard to imagine how many more waves of Covid will hit the city by then and how many more lives will be lost.
In his another suggestion, he says to PM that all vaccine makers in India should be ordered to manufacture Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin within 24 hours to ramp up stocks.
He also suggested that centre to speak to the other countries who have stocked vaccines and should request them to give the excess of it to India.
As his final suggestion, he said that international manufacturers should be granted permission to manufacture vaccine in India.
